Barolo Tour - Paitin
English version
Special focus on Barolo. Everything online in one page: Barolo - Special focus
On occasion we leave Barolo for a short period of time to go to the nearby town of Barbarasco to visit producers.
Paitin was no exception for a small drive to Barbaresco.
The first visit in this years Barolo Tour.
Paitin is situated in Neive at Via Serra Boella. A wonderful place with a build-in surprice. The vinery is on both sides of the road through town, connected by an underground tunnel...
Paitin is imported to Denmark by AtomWine. The wines of Paitin have great structure, deept and vitality and age very well, as you will see further down in the article.
We met up with one of the sons of the present owner Pasquero Elia Secondo. Actually there are 2 sons - Giovanni and Silvano.
We had the pleasure of Giovanni Pasquero Elia in this nice and sunny autumn day outside and inside of the Paitin estate.
We started up with a little view over the nearby vineyards from the balcony of the estate. Breathtalking view of Barbaresco and nearby small townships.
After a little information about the history of the estate from Giovanni we went to the cellar down below.
As you can see in the picture to the right, Paitin uses large barrels in combination with small barrique - best of 2 worlds.
Paitin is a really old vinery. It is dated back to 1796, when Benedetto Elia purchased a very beautiful property from Luigi Pellissero.
Wine is produced from 17 hectares land, such as Barbaresco, Nebbiolo, Arneis, Barbera and Dolcetto.
This autumn day we were going to taste the following wines:
Roero Arneis Elisa 2011
Dolcetto d'Alba Sori Paitin 2011
Barbera d'Alba Serra 2010
Barbera d'Alba Canpolive 2009
Nebbiolo d'Alba Ca Veja 2009
Barbaresco Sori Paitin 2009
Barbaresco Sori Paitin 2008
Barbaresco Sori Paitin 2004
Barbaresco Sori Paitin Vecchie Vigne 2006
Especially Barbaresco Sori Paitin Vecchie Vigne is quite speciel with vines planted back in the vineyard in 1953. The wine is kept in Slavonian oak casks for 36 months, then put in steel tanks for further 2 months before bottling.
The "standard" Barbaresco Sori Paitin is put in oak casks for 18 months, then 2 months in steel tanks and then bottled.
Most of the wines are aged in Slavonian oak for a longer period of time - except Barbera and Dolcetto which are both aged in steel tanks.
Is you see above, we were going to taste the following wines this morning:
